For Dr. Glover's research assignment, students self-select into one of four RIPA board subcommittees as discussed in the 2020 RIPA Report, which include:
- Policies & Accountability, p.43-54;
- Calls For Service and Bias By Proxy, p.54-58;
- Civilian Complaints, p.58-67;
- POST Training, p.91-95.
Students design and propose an original research plan/idea (qualitative; quantitative; or mixed methods) about one specific “social problem” they identify in the 2020 RIPA Report subcommittee discussion they chose.
The research plan/idea must include:
- A specific research question;
- Literature review based on two scholarly articles and the student’s own sociological/criminological/justice studies knowledge (based on previous classes) to give the research question context – this discussion must signal and invoke advanced understanding of the components and process of research (inquiry, theory, literature review, methodology, results, ethical/social justice implications);
- Proposed methodology (qualitative; quantitative; or mixed methods).
As always, please consult with full assignment guidelines in Cougar Courses.
