Meet the Artists
Meet the Artist, Salvador de la Torre, M.F.A.
Salvador de la Torre is a Mexican born Texas raised artist, storyteller, and educator, whose artwork intricately and expertly reflects their intersectional identities and positionality within society. De la Torre’s work weaves together aspects of their personal experiences, identity, borderlands, and familial relationships to create intimate works that revolve around self-acceptance, queerness, gender, and immigration. By weaving personal details into their artwork, de la Torre invites viewers to interpret, explore, and relate to their deeply evocative pieces.
De la Torre’s work traverses beyond conventional artistic mediums, oftentimes combining multiple modes to create dynamic works of art. Previous works have included the use of photography, printmaking, sculpture, performance, embroidery, and storytelling. For example, exhibitions such as “antes muerta que sencilla” beautifully intertwine the art of photography, storytelling, and performance to recreate the lived experience of their mother’s journey immigrating from Mexico.
De la Torre holds a B.A. in Fine Art and Studio Art from Texas A&M University and an MFA from CSU Fullerton. From early endeavors in freehand drawing to becoming a tattoo artist, art has remained a constant and vital element in their life. An element that viewers greatly benefit from and get to admire from all over the world, with past exhibitions being showcased in Southern California, Texas, Georgia, Taiwan, and Berlin. Their work continues to captivate audiences with its compelling narratives and profound social commentary.
