Is the library open?

The University Library has transitioned to all-virtual services in response to COVID-19 measures, and the Kellogg Library building will be temporarily closed until further notice. If you need assistance from library faculty or staff, you can reach us via email, phone, or chat and we will do our best to support you.

I have a book due soon. Can it be renewed?

All CSU+, ILL, and CSUSM items with due dates between March 1, 2020 and August 30, 2020 have been given a due date of August 31, 2020. If your account still shows items due before August 31, 2020, please contact us at libcirc@csusm.edu.

I would like to return a book. Can I do this?

All books that were due prior to the end of the semester have been given a due date of August 31, 2020.* We encourage you to follow the stay-at-home order as long as it is in place. Should you still be inclined to return your materials, you may do so at the Library Book Drop at this time.

*Items that were due before March 1, 2020 have not been affected by this change.

I have an ILL item to pick up. What do I do?

For users who had ILL items on our hold shelf prior to the Library closing, we will try to purchase the ebook version of these titles for those users. For more information, contact InterLibrary Loan at ill@csusm.edu

Can I still get books now that the library is closed?

Yes! We offer digitization on demand.

What is digitization on demand and how do I get it?

We suggest using OneSearch to search for materials. If we do not already have what you need full-text online in our digital collection, you can place an InterLibrary Loan (ILL) request in OneSearch (click the “Get It Through InterLibrary Loan” or “Request Online Access" button). We will borrow it from another Library digitally; if that isn't possible, we'll see if we can purchase or otherwise get you digital access as soon as possible. Search for resources with OneSearch and contact InterLibrary Loan for help at ill@csusm.edu.

I need a book for my class. How can I find and access it?

The Library is scanning and providing access to Reserves materials digitally as quickly as possible. Check to see if your course materials are available at https://biblio.csusm.edu/course-reserves. We are constantly updating this list, but if you don't see your materials available, send the book title, course number, and faculty name to reserve@csusm.edu. You might also want to check the Library's Freely Available and Library Resources page https://biblio.csusm.edu/covid19-resources and see if your textbook is available through RedShelf, VitalSource or Cengage Unlimited (you will need to create accounts with your CSUSM email address to find and/or use available ebooks through these sites).

How do I access media reserves?

While the Library building is closed and our physical media collection is unavailable, you can use the Library's streaming media platforms to find films and documentaries that you can watch from anywhere. Details are at https://biblio.csusm.edu/research_portal/databases/guides/video-and-streaming-media. Don't see the film you need? Contact media@csusm.edu.

I am an Alumni Association member. Can I utilize any of the online resources available?

Alumni Association members only have access to the Library’s electronic resources when on campus. The Library’s electronic resources, such as databases and ebooks, can only be accessed by alumni association members in person at one of the library’s stand-up computers. Electronic resources cannot be accessed remotely (outside of the Library) by alumni association members.

Do you have laptops I can check out?

We suggest visiting the “IITS For You” webpage as IITS provides information and updates specific to equipment deployment here: https://www.csusm.edu/iits/iitsforyou/index.html

Can I get technology support?

For general technology support, students should email sth@csusm.edu and faculty/staff should email helpdesk@csusm.edu. For Cougar Courses questions, please email cchelp@csusm.edu

How can I access the Internet/Wi-Fi?

Please visit the “IITS For You” webpage for information about Internet/Wi-fi access. For additional assistance, please contact IITS technology support services sth@csusm.edu (Students)/helpdesk@csusm.edu (Faculty/Staff).

How do I access resources off campus?

Go to the research databases as you would on campus. When you click on a link, the proxy server will ask you for your campus username and password. Enter this information and you will be able to access the resources you need! For more information, visit Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

What happened to my group study room reservation?

Because the library is currently closed, all group study room reservations have been cancelled.

What is ILL?

InterLibrary Loan provides students, faculty, and staff with access to materials that are not available through the CSUSM Library and CSU+. During this time, all requests should go through InterLibrary Loan.
